Everyone take a big sigh of relief and pat yourself on the back because you made it to the final level of this crazy year. And while the season of snow and the holidays are upon us, celebrations still look a little different this year. But that doesn’t mean there still aren’t plenty of holiday happenings in Denver to get excited about. From twinkling lights to vibrant Christmas Markets, there’s plenty of ways to spread some holiday cheer, get outside and enjoy the season of gratitude. Get these fun seasonal events on your calendar for things to do in Denver in December.

Ring in the Cheer at The Denver Botanical Gardens

Every year, the Denver Botanical Gardens puts on a show, Blossoms of Light, featuring a dazzling interactive light show, carolers, and more. Walk the garden grounds at night and experience the magic of decked-out trees, floral arrangements, and fountains. It is in-person, but tickets must be purchased in advance, and masks are mandatory. The event will also have you follow a one-way loop to promote distancing.

Enjoy the Parade of Lights

Each year, Denver 9News hosts a Parade of Lights that features floats, live music, festivities, and fun. In order to continue the tradition, a spread out “static parade” will be happening all over downtown Denver from Union Station to the Pavillions. Various locations throughout the city will host floats, allowing visitors to come and check out all of the holiday cheer.

Shop the Christkindl Market

Shop small this holiday season with a visit to the Christkindl Market. Bringing the authentic German experience to the heart of Denver, enjoy a decorated holiday village, arts and craft booths from local vendors, and plenty of tasty treats. Sip on mulled Glühwein (a hot, spiced wine) and snack on Bavarian-style pretzels as you take a trip across the pond without leaving the state. For 2020, the event has moved to Civic Center Park to allow for more spacing, but there is still a capacity limit, so arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Watch the Menorah Lighting

Head to Cherry Creek to celebrate all the holidays this season. Chabad of Cheer Creek is hosting a spectacular socially distanced event that features hot latkes, singing, donuts, dreidels, and – of course – the lighting of the Menorah. Enjoy a night of togetherness to celebrate all faiths in unity, a message we could all use more of these days.

Watch a Virtual Livestream of the Nutcracker

Catch a holiday favorite from the comfort of your own couch. This year, the Ballet Ariel’s annual event has moved online with a virtual performance of The Nutcracker.
